Abstract
Historically, the office of the Vice President has been one of little importance. The Mondale vice presidency transformed the office into one of more prestige. Significant' changes have occurred with recent vice presidents, Al Gore and Dick Cheney. For this reason, a way to evaluate the vice presidents becomes imperative. Using the Hargrove model for presidential effectiveness, an applicatio:q can be made to the vice presidencies of Gore and Cheney. The research questions addressed are: vVere Albert Gore and Richard Cheney eventful or event-making vice presidents? Were they effective? The analysis found Gore to be effective while Cheney was not effective according to Hargrove's standards. Future research should address a more concrete measurement of the modem vice pre§idency.
