Abstract
Dr. Robert Shuff my advisor, and I, decided that it would be useful that my field experience be geared toward finding out for myself how vocational agriculture is managed in institutions around Eastern Illinois University. The intent was to help me determine if any of the methods in use could be recommended for adoption in Gambian Institutions. My advisor arranged the visits as outlined in the log of activities in the final paragraph of the introduction.
Chapter one involves my meeting with Mr. Louis Christen, Director of Coles County Extension Service. During the interview, he described the history, function and structure of the organization. Also discussed were the problems and achievements of his organization.
Chapters two through five describe my interviews and observations with Mr. Tom Niksch, Mr. Roger Behrends, Mr. John Abel and Mr. Bill Speers, vocational agriculture instructors at Mattoon, Oakland, Teutopolis, and Newton Community High Schools respectively. Their programs plus improvements they would want to see or make in them were openly discussed. Chapter six covers my meeting with Dr. Neil Admire, Vice President of Lake Land College and Mr. Tom Reedy, Chairman of its agriculture department. Here, their program and how it operates was the topic of discussion.
In the concluding chapter, I expressed my feelings about the field experience and offered a number of recommendations to be adopted by the Gambian system of Education.
