Abstract
The North Clay Unit 25 school district began a gifted program in 1978. The new program was lacking in several areas. In August, 1980, the administrative staff in cooperation with Eastern Illinois University Department of School Service Personnel developed a position of administrative assistant-gifted coordinator. The gifted coordinator would administer and be responsible of gifted students and gifted staff.
The gifted coordinator would perform and review selection criteria of gifted students. Once the students were identified, the gifted coordinator would work with gifted teachers and students to extend the students learning. The gifted coordinator would develop better communication between school, parents, and students in the gifted program. The gifted coordinator, also, was to obtain, improve, and utilize gifted funds for the school district.
