Abstract
Objectives
The purpose of this field study was to review and research existing career day programs and to develop a Career Day Program for the Effingham High Schools.
Procedures
A thorough review of the literature and a review of existing career day programs throughout the state were essential to the development of guidelines and objectives for this study. The Career Day Program in Effingham is basically patterned after Project Big which is an annual career night program for the Maine Township High Schools in Park Ridge, Illinois. The Career Day Program in Effingham is planned for Spring 1984. Prior to that time many steps will be taken to ensure a successful and continuing Career Day Program including among them the following: the creation of advisory committees, the development of a calendar of events and list of participating faculty, letters to various organizations, i.e. service clubs, requesting their participation, letters to community resource people requesting their commitment and involvement, letters to parents and churches requesting their support, the development of a list of the various careers and occupations which will be represented at the Career Day Program and the preferences of the students. The Career Day will be followed with an evaluation so that this program will be thoroughly reviewed by all participants including faculty, community resource people, and students in order to ensure that it satisfactorily meets the needs of all parties.
