Description

This presentation will share a handful of poems by contemporary (living) poets that can be used as mentor texts. These mentor texts can be used to ask students to write a poem in a similar style or on a similar topic, to inspire students to write a narrative on a similar topic, or to engage students in research related to the topic of the poem. A few poems will be shared that can also be incorporated into content areas other than ELA. The poems shared will be appropriate for secondary (grades 7-12) but the tasks are appropriate for all grade levels.

Audience: Secondary teachers (grades 7-12 and all content areas) for the poems
