Abstract
This paper provides a new way of thinking about visionary leadership and executive decision making. First, the literature on visionary leadership is reviewed; then a discussion of cognitive styles that draws on the psychology literature is presented. We found differences between the “visualizer” and the “verbalizer” cognitive styles. The paper proposes a research methodology to explore the effect that these cognitive styles have on established characteristics of strategic managerial decisions.
