Abstract

The purpose of this article is to promote the benefits of the Fulbright Specialist Program and encourage diversity education scholars and professionals working in the fields of management and human resource development to consider applying for a Fulbright Specialist award abroad. This article will begin with an introduction and synopsis of the apartheid years in South Africa and its impact on their higher education system. Next, a brief history of the Fulbright Scholar Program and overview of the Fulbright Specialist Program will be provided, This section will be followed by a summary of my Fulbright Specialist experience at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) located in Cape Town South Africa, along with the lessons I learned. This article will conclude by encouraging diversity and inclusion scholars and professionals working in the fields of management and human resource development to consider applying for a Fulbright Specialist award, and by expressing my gratitude to the Fulbright Specialist Program publically for providing me with a life changing opportunity to share my diversity and inclusion expertise and engage in research with colleagues at CPUT in Cape Town, South Africa.
