Edible Book Festival 2014

On Monday April 14th 2014, Booth Library hosted its fourth annual Edible Book Festival. There were 38 entries, including pieces from library staff, students, faculty, retirees, and members of the local community. New this year were several entries from students of Cumberland Middle School! Also new this year was an award category for the Funniest Pun. The entries ranged from literal interpretations of books to puns on book titles.
Festival attendees could vote for their favorite exhibit and due to the high quality of the pieces nearly every entry received votes. The award winners were:
Dean's Choice Gold Medal - "How Do Penguins Play?" by Roxanne Frey & Grand-daughters
Dean's Choice Silver Medal - "Lard of the Fries" by Ann Brownson
People's Choice Gold Medal (Most Votes) - "Dog Eat Dog" by Beth Heldebrandt and Janahn Kolden
People's Choice Silver Medal - "Splat the Cat" by Michael Carlen of Cumberland Middle School
Student Entry Best In Show - "Reading is Sweet as a Peach" by Michelle Cheval and Justin Decker
Family Entry Best In Show - "My Own Private Idaho" by Sarah and Mark Johnson
Children's Book Theme Best In Show - "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" by Georgia Ryan
Funniest Pun Best In Show - "Forest? Gump." by David Bell
There were also several Honorable Mention awards, which were chosen by Dr. Allen Lanham:
"The Lorax" by Alyson Vaaler and Samantha Bobbitt, Honorable Mention in the Children's Book Theme category
"When the Beet was Born" by Robert Hillman, Honorable Mention in the Children's Book Theme category
"Charlotte's Web" by the Steve Brantley Family, Honorable Mention in the Best Family Entry category
"(de)Canterb(er)ry Tales" by Heather Wohltman, Honorable Mention in the Funniest Pun category
"Cookie Monster's Good Time to Eat" by Spencer Powell of Cumberland Middle School, Honorable Mention in the Best Student Entry category
"Trumpet of the Swan" by Riannon Neidigh of Cumberland Middle School, Honorable Mention in the Best Student Entry category
