Abstract
Private universities have long been a central element of higher educational systems in various regions andcountries in the world. The phenomenon is, however, a recent development in Sub-Saharan Africa where it onlyemerged in the 1990s following the implementation of neo-liberal policies after the economic crisis of the 1980s,which led to major reductions in funding for public universities. The purpose of this study was to investigate privateuniversities in Uganda.
