Abstract
The origin of the Russian system of vocational training can be traced back to the year 1830. A School of Trades and Industries was established in Moscow in that year. By 1868 this school was one of the leading polytechnic schools of Russia and became known as the Imperial Technical School. The school was established to train civil engineers, mechanical engineers, draftsmen, and chemists. It was in this school where Victor Della Vos, as director, established a system of teaching the vocational subjects which is still in use today.
