Description
The evolution of the captivity narrative, from religious narrative, to propaganda narrative to that of sensational fiction, occurred from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Samples of these narrative qualities will be presented in this exhibit through the documented experiences of women, children, men, African Americans and Native Americans, many with ties to Illinois.
