Abstract

Book donations are a mainstay of collection building. Gifts can range in scope from a few items dropped off by a patron to a large donation that requires a team of people to retrieve. The items themselves may also vary from the kind you want to send out a press release praising to the kind you want to quietly put in the book sale pile. Receiving donations can be considered either an exceptional tool for developing the collection or a time-consuming reallocation of library resources that could be spent ordering and processing new materials. This poster session will consider the issues surrounding book donations and offer best procedures based on the recent experience with several donations received at Booth Library, Eastern Illinois University.
