The Booth Collaborative Advisory Committee at Eastern Illinois University recently honored eight students as winners of the 2023 Awards for Excellence in Student Research and Creativity.

Graduate Division
First place: Michelle Thole of Highland (History) for "World War 1 War Front and Home Front: The Correspondence that Brought Them Together"
Second place: Joel Holison of Ghana (School of Technology) for "Assessing the Knowledge, Attitude, and Everyday Life Practices Adopted among Eastern Illinois University Students Toward Sustainability"
Third place: Nancy Ledeinde of Laos (Communication Studies) for "A Comparative Analysis of Sustainability Report Communication in the Consumer Goods Industry"
Honorable Mention: Taylor Comer of Antioch (College Student Affairs) for "From Incarcerated to Educated: Experiences of On-Campus Students Post-Incarceration"

Undergraduate Division
First place: Abigail Moore of Oak Lawn (Communications Disorders and Sciences) for "Otolaryngologist and Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Collaboration in Head and Neck Cancer"
Second place: Taylor Spidle of Mattoon (Biological Sciences) for "In Vitro Characterization of Fluorogenic Chemical Tools to Study Human Carboxylesterases (CESs)"
Third place: Dayden Gardner of Sullivan (History Teacher Education) for "Little Choice in the Matter for Comfort Women: Tales of Little Hope and Survival During the Second World War"
Honorable Mention: Athena Ballard of Belleville (English) for "The Good, the Bad, and the Nerdy"

The award winners were honored during an Awards for Excellence Showcase on April 21, just prior to the EIU Student Research and Creative Discovery Conference. Honorees presented a short summary of their research.

The Booth Library Awards for Excellence in Student Research and Creativity program promotes and recognizes excellence in student research. The program encourages students to enhance their studies by utilizing the wealth of information available at Booth Library and other research venues.

All entries were original works completed by Eastern students within the last 12 months. The award recipients were selected on the basis of excellence, creativity and the use of research resources.
