Brad Wright Scholarship

Brad Wright was from Decatur, Illinois. Brad served as a Resident Assistant in Carman Hall from 1997-98. Brad was planning on returning as a Resident Assistant for the following fall semester, but on June 28, 1998, Brad passed away due to an undetected heart condition. This scholarship was created by the friends and family of Brad Wright as a testament to his legacy as an RA who connected with his residents in an extraordinary way.
This scholarship recognizes outstanding contributions to our on-campus students and housing program by a Resident Assistant or Senior Staff Assistant. Nominations may be made by any Professional Housing Staff member, with a limit of one per staff member.

Career in Housing and Student Affairs Scholarship

Randy Johnson, Hall Director and his four Resident Assistants (Randy Bailey, Mark Geninatti, Dale Morrissey, and Mark Swanson) served residents in the formerly named Douglas Hall in 1975-1976. In honor of the impact their residence hall experience had on them, they wanted to encourage undergraduate staff to consider pursuing a career in Housing/Student Affairs. This scholarship recognizes the contributions of an undergraduate Student Staff Member who has served Eastern Illinois University’s Residential Life Program and has a desire to pursue a career in housing or Student Affairs.

Lou V. Hencken Housing Service Scholarships

The Louis V. Hencken Housing Service Scholarship is named in honor of the person who is a former EIU graduate and full-time hall director, Assistant, Associate and Director of Housing, Vice President of Student Affairs, University President and Faculty in the College Student affairs program. Over his more than 50 years with EIU his connection and impact on students was immense. He was the ultimate encourager of student engagement, and this award is meant to do just that. This scholarship recognizes the past academic year contributions of outstanding student leaders who volunteer their time in Panther L.E.A.D.S. (Hall Government), Residence Hall Association (RHA) or the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). The nominee must be seen as having done a great job in their position whether it is the President, Vice President, or other member of the organization. This award is intended for those who commit to continuing their volunteer contributions to any of the above-mentioned organizations. Those who are currently serving or are selected to become a Resident Assistant, Senior Staff Assistant, or Associate Resident Hall Director are not eligible for this award. Except for the award given to a member of NRHH. Nominations may be made by any Housing Professional Staff member, with a limit of one nomination per council. There will be 10 awards given out, 1 per Panther L.E.A.D.S. and RHA. Individuals will only be eligible to receive the award amount once, with no repeats.

Richard G. Enochs Scholarship

This scholarship is a prestigious Housing Scholarship recognizing the contributions of an outstanding student leader in EIU’s on-campus community. Nominations may be made by any Housing Professional Staff member, with a limit of one nomination per staff member.
Richard Enochs was the Assistant Director of Housing and was responsible for the care and maintenance of the department’s facilities. He was also responsible for University Apartments, known originally as married student housing. He was well known as a person who always looked out for the students’ best interests. On March 5, 1978, he unexpectantly passed away. Friends and representatives of the Housing and Dining Office honored the memory of Mr. Enochs by establishing the Richard G. Enochs Scholarship on June 5, 1978.
This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the success of the residential experience through their efforts over several years.
