In 2016, the budget stalemate in Springfield resulted in a number of cuts to universities around the state. This included canceling the 2016 Years of Service Awards ceremony at Eastern Illinois University.
The 2016 award winners were instead acknowledged in 2017, when the awards were reinstated.
